MySpace Tom Anderson Guilty of Faking his Age?

The thirtysomething millionaire who co-founded the popular social networking site MySpace has been outed as an age-faker.

Newsweek magazine reports that Tom Anderson was lying about his age since launching the site in 2003.

Anderson’s MySpace profile lists his age as 32. But according to Newsweek, he will in fact turn 37 next week.

And that would have made him a 32-year-old when the site launched, not a 27-year-old wunderkind.

The magazine obtained driving licence information, voter registration and telephone service applications which showed Anderson’s birthday as November 8, 1970.

Anderson and co-founder Chris Dewolfe sold MySpace to Rupert Murdoch for $US580 million ($630 million) in 2005 and the pair continue to work for News Corporation. Earlier this month they were reported to have signed a new two-year deal that would see them each earn $US15 million.

Anderson is well known on MySpace. He is automatically added as a “friend” to every new MySpace member. He is listed as having more than 207 million MySpace friends.

Age faking – and name faking – is common on MySpace. Critics say the lack of age verification enables sexual predators to masquerade as teenagers and befriend real teens using the site.

While Anderson’s little white lie is not a serious transgression, the move gives some insight into the lengths the company is prepared to go to project the image of MySpace as a trendy youth hangout.

MySpace and Anderson steadfastly refused to comment on the age claims, which began circulating on the blogosphere last week.

The kerfuffle comes as a report this month from web monitoring firm Hitwise showed that MySpace may be experiencing a shift in the demographics of its membership brought about by a rise in popularity of Facebook.

“Compared to Facebook, MySpace attracts more middle-class Australian segments, such as ‘Family Room’ characterised as young families in growth corridors, and ‘Domestic Appliance’ who are generally, better-off families in core suburban and rural fringe locations.” the Hitwise report said.

MySpace Australia vigorously disputes both the methodology and conclusion reached in the report, refuting the suggestion that younger members are deserting the site.

In a comment typical of the reaction from the blogosphere to the revelation, CNET’s Caroline McCarthy said “apparently he was either self-conscious or sketched out (or both) about being in his 30s when he founded a youth-oriented social network”.

Michael Arrington from TechCrunch was more scathing: “If you can’t trust the founders to be truthful in their profiles, how can you trust what anyone says on the site.”

MP4 Hardware/Video Performs Well in Market

GD Star Rating
loading...

Since the first MP4 came into market, MP4 seems to have been under great pressure from its rivals including video MP3, smart-phone, psp and so on.

To survive in the market, MP4 manufacturers have been spending accelerated efforts to advance their products. The MP4 product line has been expanded a lot. In addition to ordinary ones, high-end MP4 players with improved and multiplied functions are also available in market.

The player market is developing rapidly and the market of MP4 has been consolidated and expanded due to continuous innovations in industry. A report of Chinese MP4 player market in the first quarter shows that 478,800 sets of MP4 worth 708 million were sold in the first three months of this year. The total sales volume in Chinese market is predicted to top 2 million sets this year.

Price is still the first concern of consumers. Statistics from the Report of the Development of China MP4 Market in 2006 released by Analysys International suggest that RMB500-1000 MP4 sold the best with a market share of 45.23 percent while RMB1000-1500 MP4 held a share of 18.09 percent. The higher the price was, the smaller the sales volume was.
To view the market from an overall perspective, the low-price flash MP4 dominated the market with a share of more than 80 percent. It is also likely to win a share of the low-end and mid-range market.

Decreases in price do not mean weakened functions. On the contrary, the fierce competition in MP4 market has led to accelerated technological update and diversified functions. It is widely believed that the video decoding technology will be diversified while the competitiveness of MP4 will be dramatically enhanced by the application of hardware decoding instead of software decoding. In addition, equipped with more durable batteries, MP4 will face smaller threat from entertainment consumer electronic products such as mobile phone. The advance of widescreen film technology will also be taken into consideration in MP4 design in future.

Mp4 DownloadingIt is hard to overestimate the role that the internet has played in recent years for multimedia and entertainment, including downloading MP4 files. There was a time when the only kind of audio you could download was minuscule midi files. And that was about the limit of what you could carry from one computer to another, because all the removable medium you had in those days was the measly floppy disk. At that time, if you told anyone they would be able to download and carry hundreds of music files of the highest quality and with stereo sound, it would have sounded like science fiction. But then came the MP3.

Now, something similar is happening with the MP4. Only this time it is about video, and not audio & data.

Imagine waking up in the morning and wanting to watch some latest Hollywood box office hit. You go to your favorite site for MP4 downloading, perhaps make an online payment with your credit card, and in a few minutes you have it on your hard disk. Then you upload it to your portable MP4 player, and take it with you on your way to work. Watch it on the bus or train, watch it during the lunch break, or even watch it during work hours on a particularly slow day. Back home, take it to bed with you. If it’s romantic stuff, watch it with your spouse in bed, lying side by side, your heads close together. Sounds like a pretty good thing to me; what’s your feeling?

Yes, this has now become possible, thanks to MP4 technology. MP4 uses high-class codecs for encoding and decoding (incidentally, that’s where the name comes from) video data into compressed format (thus reducing file size) while not compromising on visual quality too much. This results in high quality movies which are nevertheless so small that they can be distributed over the internet, mainly through MP4 download sites and services, and also carried easily on recordable media or lightweight personal players.

There has been a great expansion in storage media capacity and bandwidth in recent times, and this has certainly helped the online multimedia boom. But surely a larger part is played by modern high-quality movie encoding technology, which makes MP4 downloading possible.

How to Convert MP4 to MP3. M4A Converting

GD Star Rating

Convert MP4 to MP3, Convert M4A to MP3, Convert AAC to MP3. MP4 to MP3 Converter can convert many video/audio files to MP3!

Download MP4/M4A to MP3 Converter here.

The term MP4 is most often associated with video, while the term MP3 is almost universally recognized to be about music. How can then one convert MP4 to MP3, and what can be the reason to do so?

A decade ago, audio compression was the biggest thing in multimedia applications. There was a time when the only kind of audio you could possibly download from the internet was minuscule midi files. And that was about the limit of what you could carry from one computer to another, because all the removable medium you had in those days was the measly floppy disk. But then came the MP3.

Now, the same thing has happened with video. With the help of modern video compression technologies, it has become possible to put small yet high-quality video files on hand-held, portable personal video players. And the commonest type of file used by these is the MP4.

However, not all MP4 files contain video. The MP4 file format is able to contain video, but nothing says that it has to contain video. It may just contain an audio stream, and that would play perfectly well in any capable MP4 player. In fact, the hugely popular online music store iTunes sells its music in MP4 format. You shall notice that iTunes files have the .m4a extension. This is Apple’s way of indicating that these are MP4 files with only an audio stream in them, and no video.

But not everyone owns an iPod or some other MP4 player. MP3 players have been with us for a decade or more, and MP4 players haven’t yet been able to beat them in numbers. So when you want to listen that catchy tune you caught on your friend’s iPod, but own only a couple-of-years-old MP3 player, you need a tool that can convert MP4 to MP3.

The good news is that the audio stream inside MP4 files is nothing other than the good old MP3, merely inserted in a different package. So it is really trivial to extract this stream and save it as a different file that can be played on your old player. Several tools are available including MP4/M4A to MP3 Converter (Download Here). Get yourself one and convert MP4 to MP3 to your heart’s content!

Note: MP4 to MP3 Converter can also convert other media files to MP3 files, these media files may include WAV, OGG, WMA, WMV, ASF, ASX, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, MP4, M4A, AAC, MOV, QT, 3GP, and so on.

Spammers are exploiting YouTube to send out huge quantities of spam.

Content filtering firm Marshall reported that spammers have set up a large number of bogus YouTube accounts to forward on spam using the ‘Invite Your Friends’ feature of the site.

“YouTube users have a facility where they can invite their friends to view videos that they are looking at or have posted,” said Bradley Anstis, director of product management at Marshall.

“This effectively allows them to email any address from their YouTube account, and this is the functionality that the spammers are exploiting.”

The technique is more effective than standard methods because spam filters generally recognise YouTube as a trusted address and let the emails through.
