Why watch MP4 Videos?

Thursday, September 21st, 2006

MP4 technology has opened a new horizon of possibilities for online media distribution and easy portability of audio-visual media. What MP3 music did a decade ago, MP4 videos are doing today. And as a result, it has made it possible to distribute high-quality audio-visual data through the internet. This has created an entirely new field of business paid video downloads.

But how does [TAG-TEC]MP4[/TAG-TEC] achieve all this? Dissemination of video data online is made possible by two properties of MP4 videos. First, it can provide an adequately high quality that ensures the unimpeded enjoyment of latest movie titles. Secondly, it produces files of a size that are small enough to be distributed online, or carried in a portable, personal video player. In other words, it must compress the video in such a way that a manageable file size is achieved, while not compromising on quality. What is the secret behind MP4 videos that makes all this possible?

Raw or uncompressed video data is absolutely huge in size. Try saving some television shows your hard drive without turning on any compression option, and you'll see what this means. A few minutes of raw video are enough to fill up completely even one of today's modern high-capacity hard drives. You'll soon run out of space onyour computer. So naturally, the solution is to compress the video data in such a way that it shrinks into a minuscule fraction of its original size, but does not lose quality in any perceptible way. [TAG-ICE]MP4[/TAG-ICE]does this by using highly optimizing codecs, which must be installed on your system if you want to either encode or watch MP4 videos.

What do the codecs actually do? Well, the procedure is too technical for a detailed explanation here, but the principle can be described. Both audio and visual data have a lot of elements in them which do not really contribute anything to the multimedia experience. There are a lot of audio frequencies or ranges of visual signals which do not really matter in the listening or watching, but they sit around nevertheless, taking up space in the video stream. The MP4 codecs identify these portions of the sound and the pictures, and discard them. The result is an MP4 video file that looks almost as good as the original, but is many, many times smaller!

Thursday, September 14th, 2006

NBC Universal said on Wednesday it will offer episodes of some of its new prime-time shows for free online viewing on personal computers in a bid to build an audience for its fall schedule.

[TAG-TEC]NBC[/TAG-TEC] will stream the first four episodes of comedies "30 Rock" and "Twenty Good Years," and the first eight episodes of dramas "Kidnapped," "Friday Night Lights," "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" and "Heroes" on its ad-supported broadband player at NBC.com.

Each episode will appear on the site after it airs on NBC and will be available for a week, said Jeff Gaspin, president of NBC Universal Cable Entertainment, Digital Content and Cross-Network Strategy.

"We are looking to reach as many people as possible and to get as much sampling (of shows) as possible for the new series," Gaspin said on Wednesday. "This is an experiment with us. We are just committing through November sweeps now."

NBC.com also will host live blogs with the creators, producers or cast for every show following its premiere on NBC, which is owned by General Electric Co..
A high-resolution, large-format version of NBC's broadband player, called NBC/24, will relaunch on October 1.

Transfer DVD to 3GP or Video To Cell Phone

Wednesday, September 13th, 2006

Anyone can transfer any video to their Mobile Cell Phones.

Have you ever wondered how people watch movies on their cell phones? Well so did I and I have found an easy way to get any video you have onto your cell phone so you can watch it wherever you go. PQ DVD to [TAG-TEC]3GP[/TAG-TEC] Video Suite is the tool I found and was quite impressed with the ease of using it. It's basically tell it which video you want to convert and hit "convert". Did I say it was easy to use?? After I just connected my cell phone to my PC via USB and transfered the video to it, a minute later I was watching the video I just converted. The software allows you to convert video from these sources: DVD, TiVo, MPEG, WMV, DivX, AVI to 3GP format.

You can download the software here. If you like it or simply want it now it's $29.97 which I found reasonable.

A MP4 Movie a Day Will Keep the Doctor Away

Wednesday, September 6th, 2006

mp4With MP4 movies, you can now beat the deadening boredom of your routine life, day in and day out. Let's take a look at how movies can help you do that.

You are traveling to or from work on a crowded bus or train. You have somehow managed tograb a little sitting space in the corner, or perhaps have settled yourself into the cozy nook of the far wall. Perhaps you don't have a newspaper with you, or wouldn't have had the space to unfold it enough to read it. You are bored to death, watching the stops go by at a snail's pace as you move in and out of a light doze brought on by the mindless tedium and the lack of adequate oxygen. You are in desperate need of air to breathe, or, failing that, something to take your mind off the mindless boredom. Ah, what would you not give for a little pocket book that you could read while you stand thus, uninspired, in the corner? Or maybe a movie that you could watch quietly, with a pair of high-quality earphones? Sounds too good to be true, eh? But this is already true.

Yes, that is what MP4 movies can give you. Using high-quality codecs for video compression, MP4 is a revolutionary new technology that enable you to enjoy your movies on very lightweight, handy, portable little players that you can easily tuck into your shirt pocket, inside your briefcase, or even as a largish locket for your neck chain.

What makes this sort of easy portability possible is the fact that MP4 movies are small enough to fit into handheld MP4 players, like the recently released iPod video player from Apple, or a number of other, less pricey MP4 players. What still makes it enjoyable to watch the movies on them is the fact that in spite of their great compression, MP4 movies are able to retain much of the quality of the original uncompressed video.

So if you're a daily commuter, MP4 movies are a godsend for you. But even if you aren't, get an MP4 player anyway, so you can enjoy your favorite titles wherever, however and whenever you want.
