When you visit your loved in a hospital or clinical setting, the monitors surrounding their bed may seem scary and foreboding. However, these patient monitors are vital in the best care possible of that loved one. There are different monitors for vital signs and other conditions that need constant monitoring.
If you are wondering what the monitors are reporting about you or your loved one, then you should always ask. No nurse or doctor will mind telling you what the monitors are saying. Patients have been known to get frightened, thinking that something was wrong when the monitor started beeping. Sometimes the beeping is a perfectly normal signal for the nurse.

A pulse oximeter is another kind of patient monitor that is for monitoring the saturation of oxygen in your blood. These are used a lot on those who just came from surgery or those who are still under the effects of the anesthesia. The amount of oxygen in your blood is important especially when you are under the influence of drugs that are respiratory depressants. Those monitors that require a red light to be clipped onto your finger tip is this kind of monitor.
During any surgery you will be attached to patient monitors that are specifically for those that are under anesthesia. They are called anesthetic monitors or Agent 5 gas monitors. They monitor all your vital sign like other monitors plus blood gases. These are what doctors and nurses are dependant on during your surgery to alert them when blood pressure or heart rate changes.
No one likes to end up at the emergency room. If you do, however, you will have to be checked in through the triage station. The triage nurse will take your vital signs with patient monitors. You will have your blood pressure, your temperature, and your heart rate taken through this monitor. All this vital information along with any symptoms that you have is put into your chart for when you get to see the doctor.
Have you ever heard of ambulatory telemetry? If you have seen someone with a heart monitor outside the hospital, then you have seen it at work. This is a medical technology that allows a patient to be at home and doing the normal things they do every day while all the time is being monitored at their doctor\’s office due to the heart monitor.
