Will Windows Media Player 11 support MP4 files?

Well according to Chris Pirillos blog it will not. Apparently there was a bug in the beta version that was filed but looks like it was ignored. You may need to buy a codec plugin for this feature.

My personal opinion is that is should be included. For us geeks we know what is going on to playback these files, and I don't want to explain to Gma and my Aunts how to get it to run properly on their computers that they only use once a week.

You don't have to buy anything go to this link and download the k lite codec pack and install it. During the install you can tell it to associate the codecs, which includes MP4, with Windows Media Player. Works great.

Download Xvid and install it first. Then download ffdshow and install it. Then go to start-all programs-ffdshow-video decoder configuration. Change the codec for: Other MPEG4 & Generic to Xvid. That's how I was able to play .mp4's in wmp 11
